![]() ![]() How lucky I was to be able to join the army as a young man. How lucky I was to live beside the most amazing wild blue berry patch where I found I could earn enough money by picking and selling those blueberries along the highway to passing tourists in the summer to pay for my own clothes, entertainment and books. How lucky I was that I got to get up at 4:30am and get paid to light gas stoves under construction equipment when I was 9. I chose to focus on a different set of facts. ![]() ![]() My choice was not focus on the fact that I found myself in a strange country with a grade six education, or the fact that I was a skinny, quite small for my age, immigrant who spoke with a weird accent and whose mother sent him to school in short pants. We all have our own difficulties to overcome, whether they be economic, political or personal. It is easy to complain and discuss how difficult it is to succeed. I am an important part of the checks and balances that keep the life spirit alive that every society wants and needs for sustainability.Īs an entrepreneur I have the opportunity to get up each morning and create my own day, a day where I can work as hard as I want and where I have a reasonable chance to become a leader in my community. Is this journey guaranteed to bring you wealth, fame, happiness – absolutely not.Ī daily gift I receive, is knowing how important the entrepreneurial role is that I play in society. Is this journey difficult and sometimes very exasperating – absolutely. I get up each morning full of life, happiness and anticipation of what gifts this new day will bring. How else can one get to do what they love each and every day. I consider myself the luckiest person on the planet. I have been on the entrepreneurial path since I was 24 years old - I am now 80 (2017). Much like writing a song the words flowed out in about five minutes. I thought you might like to read the message. I was honored to be asked and as I sat down to write I became so excited with the message that came out. This year I was asked if I would reestablish this habit by writing to the outgoing Chairman. Somewhere along the line this custom was dropped. There used to be a custom where the outgoing Chairman would leave a letter to the incoming Chairman, much like a custom that existed for the incoming and outgoing Presidents of the United States.
